Proposed L3D Mail Aliases

l3d-forum
people who want announcements about l3d happenings, but probably don't want in on discussions (eg, someone @uswest). includes l3d-local

l3d
the global alias-interested in topical discussions, but not local meetings--alumni, potentially board, nynex folks. includes l3d-local

l3d-local
people closely associated with the center (eg, mark gross) but not directly part of the day-to-day operations of the center (ie, paid, fellowship, or visiting). would be interested in ongoing discussions and local meetings. includes l3d-core

l3d-core
those directly part of the day-to-day operations of the center (ie paid, fellowship, or visiting). this alias would be used for day-to-day and semi-private issues (eg, discussion of interviewing candidates). includes l3d-students

l3d-students
those students funded by or attached to l3d--other students should go into l3d-forum

Notes

Hal:
if there is a need for a general "l3d students" alias we could have that and an l3d-core-students alias and only include l3d-core-students in l3d-core
Corrina:
To me, the only thing not addressed by this is - what if you want to send something to only l3d-core (i.e. just staff) but not l3d-students? If l3d-core includes students, that won't work.
Hal:
one issue was that often other interested students get grouped in with l3d-students, which violates the need for semi-privacy in that alias as part of l3d-core

i thought those could go into either l3d-forum or l3d-local depending on whether they wanted just meeting announcements, or announcements and discussion. alternatively we could have l3d-students and l3d-core-students, as i mentioned before.

i agree with corrina regarding the usefulness of the l3d-associates for the non-student core group.
