Things that Think
In this course, students will use a variety of tools to design and construct real-world moving toys and construction kits that incorporate small elements of computation.  Students will learn many different fabrication techniques including the use of a 3D rapid-prototyping machine, a laser cutter, traditional shop tools (miter saw, drill press, scroll saw, zip saw), and everyday craft materials.  Previous experience with such tools is not a prerequisite, but students should enter the class prepared to experiment with all sorts of tools and materials.  This is a projects class and students must be self-motivated to use the open lab times outside of class.

Along the way, we will take a step back and discuss what it means to incorporate computation into various objects, and how to make aesthetically tasteful choices in the design of artifacts.
