There will be two major projects (each worth 35% of the final grade); short assignments (together worth 25%) and class participation (5%). The final projects will be presented during finals week. The major projects will involve a thorough written report and an oral presentation.
Open lab hours will be held after class (TR) from 12:45 to 1:45 pm beginning the week of Feb. 5, after the introduction to the lab. Open lab hours may be longer than these depending on our schedules -- we'll try to give you as much time as we can. We will send out email at the beginning of each week with the lab schedule for the next few days. We may possibly hold additional weekday or weekend hours, but cannot guarantee it -- and due to our own time constraint (Adam), we cannot hold lab hours at night. We're trying to give you ample time in the lab by holding a number of class sessions as open lab sessions to work with your group and use the machines.
This sounds trite, but you really, really have to budget your time to get things done in this class. GET YOUR MACHINE WORK DONE EARLY -- use the class time and the posted lab hours and really plan what you are going to do OUTSIDE of lab so you can get the maximum amount of time using the tools. Again, do not count on a lot of extra hours of open lab time beyond what is scheduled. We are required to be present when students are in the lab, so we can't just give everyone access.
