User Interface Design Practicum -- Call for Project Proposals

Do you have a user interface design project that you need help with?
Every year, small teams of graduate and undergraduate students work
on community or faculty-sponsored projects as part of their user
interface design course. We are currently seeking projects for this
fall's course, which will begin on August 31. If you have a project
you would like to submit, please send the following to Tamara Sumner
(<mailto:sumner at colorado.edu>sumner at colorado.edu) by Thursday August 24:

- Title of the Project
- Sponsor's Name and Email contact
- Brief description of the project: What is it about? Who is it for?
Why is it useful or interesting?

Examples of previous years' project proposals (from prospective
sponsors) and final project reports (from the students) are available
on the web.

Example Proposals:

What you can expect:
If your project is selected, a group of three to five students will
spend a considerable amount of time and energy working on your
project from the beginning of September until early December.
Depending upon the specific demands of the project, the students will
interview representative users to formulate a user-centered design
brief, they will develop and evaluate mock-ups of several alternative
designs, based on these evaluations they will then develop a
prototype, which they will use in testing with users. Projects that
primarily emphasize programming are inappropriate.

Project sponsors should be willing to meet with the students early on
in the semester to discuss the project, and minimally, to meet with
them monthly until the completion of the project. Other arrangements
can be made for sponsors that are geographically distant.

Please contact Tamara Sumner (sumner at colorado.edu) if you have any
questions about the course or potential projects you would like to discuss.
