CSCI 5582: Artificial Intelligence
Fall 1996
Project wrap-ups
Each in-class team will be asked to give a project summary Wednesday, December 11. We will be VERY strict about time limits to give everyone a chance to speak and to avoid running over. Teams of 1-2 people will have 3 minutes; teams with three people will have 4 minutes.
Tips for a successful presentation:
- Be as concise as possible -- knowing how to give a three-four minute presentation that gets your ideas across is a valuable skill to have.
- If you want to use overhead slides, print them in a large font (at least 18 pt) on BLUE paper
- When standing at the podium you will see TV screens in front of you -- try your best to ignore them!
- Don't be afraid to ask the camera people to cue your overheads, etc. if they don't show up on the screens at the front of the room
The order of the presentations is:
- Joe Fisher, Carrie Oswald*, Bryan Welch*: Custom Eliza, acting as a Dilbert manager
- Tavares Ford: Textual output with emotional reaction
- Jeremy Bargen: The Conspiracy Theorist
- Heather Bryant: Financial stock forecasting with neural nets
- Marcus England, Troy Guillory: Financial stock forecasting with neural nets.
- Eric Scharff: Genetic algorithms for music analysis/production
- Anna Szczyrba: Creativity and AI
- Andri Ioannidou: Braitenberg vehicles in Agentsheets
- Braden Craig: Agents/Agentsheets
- Andy Gorman, John Pedretti, Bob Papp*: Collaborative agents to implement evolving or adaptive software
- Brian Loughry, Rodney Russ: Resource Scheduling Agents
- Taro Adachi: End-user modifiable pen-based interface
- Han Lee: Handwritten character recognition with neural nets
- Tom Green, Tom Wrensch, David Reese: Solving systems of Qualitative (Sign) Equations
- Doug Cosman: Expert system for technical problem solving
- Shawn Morrison: State machine
- Vlakkies Schreuder: Using a neural network to interpret satellite images to classify vegetation types of hydrological significance.
- David Knox: Neural net project.
- Apriamon Damrongsiri, Thammanoon Prathumkaew: Connect Four with neural nets
- Michael Molla: Scrabble
- Ray Matthieu, Andrei Rodionov, Bob McTasney: A Simple Sentence Thesaurus
- Yunwen Ye, Wusheng Piao: Intelligent Chinese Input System
*If your group is a mixed catecs-inclass combination -- and the catecs students cannot attend the class live -- the in-class students should give an oral presentation, and the catecs students should contribute by email (see below). Try to divide the work of the presentation fairly among yourselves.
CATECS-only projects -- post a 1 page project summary to the class (csci5582-all@cs.colorado.edu) no later than 4pm Dec. 11
- Tom Fauble: Natural language processing
- Michelle Hsu: Genetic algorithm based pattern recognition algorithm
- Ying Harvey: Natural language processing
- Susan Kenniston: Knowledge acquisition
- Jyothi Kirani: Design and implementation of a machine translator
- George Mudrak: Fuzzy logic vs probability
- Jim Teaff: Neural-net for character recognition on zip codes
