Improving Patient Quality of Life with Consumer
Health Informatics
Abstract
Dr. Siek will discuss the history of medical
informatics and how consumer health informatics emerged. She will use real-world
examples from her research showing how technology can improve patient quality
of life by making patients more independent, empowered, and knowledgable about
their personal health. She will also discuss the implications on such technology
on health researchers, clinicians, and family members. She will finish the talk
by discussing the framework she developed for conducting user studies in hospital
environments with patients.
