Bus Spotting: The Pragmatic Web meets 3D Video Game Technology

Abstract

This will be a first peek at the result of combining The Pragmatic Web framework with brand-new AgentSheets 3D technology. The new, OpenGL-based, AgentSheets 3D simulation engine is used to represent the CU Boulder bus system in real time. The entire bus system is equipped with GPS sensors and a wireless network. A short presentation of the current system will be followed with a general discussion connecting scientific visualization, agents, simulations and end-user programming. The central question is how the enormous 3D power of modern computers (mostly a side effect of the current gaming industry) can be harvested to create powerful end-user programmable 3D applications.
