Dr. Paloma Díaz is full professor at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Escuela Politécnica Superior) and head of the DEI research group. She holds a Degree in Computer Science and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Her research interests mainly focus on topics such as web and hypermedia/web engineering methods integrating usability principles as well as their practical application to different kinds of interactive systems including e-learning and e-gov. Moreover, Prof. Díaz is Scientific Manager of the National Program of R+D for the Program of Technologies and Services for the Information Society (Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation) She is actually in a sabbatical leave at the Computer Supported Collaboration and Learning Laboratory of the College of Information Science and Technology of Penn State University, leaded by Prof. Carroll and Prof. Rosson. She is Program Co-Chair of IEEE ICALT 2008.
Dr. Alessio Malizzia. Degree in Computer Science and Ph.D. in Computer Science from University "La Sapienza" of Rome, Italy (Thesis title: a Cooperative-Relational Approach to Digital Library Environments). He is currently with the DEI group holding a Associate Professor Position at the University Carlos III of Madrid. From February 2003 February 2007, he was a Research Fellow at the Computer Science Department of the University of Rome "La Sapienza", Italy. In the past his research activities focused on theory and algorithms for pattern recognition, machine learning and visualization. From 1999 to 2002 he worked for the Rome IBM Tivoli Laboratory, Silicon Graphics and the Reply group. During the Summer 2003, he has spent three months for an internship at the XEROX PARC (Palo Alto Research Center, Palo Alto, CA, USA) in the ISTL (Information Science and Technology) Lab working in Human Document Interaction and after he has hold a Visiting Researcher contract within the same group. Today he is working on Human Computer Interaction, Digital Libraries and Model Driven Architectures. Moreover, he is co-organizing the "HCI for emergencies" workshop for CHI 2008 conference and a special session with the same name in the ISCRAM 2008 conference.
Dr. Ignacio Aedo holds a degree in Computer Science and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. He's currently full professor at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and his interests mainly focus on topics such as hypermedia, interactive systems, web systems, learning technologies, development methodologies and information systems for emergency situations. Since 2001, he is technical advisor of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the application of ICT in the civil protection domain. He is actually in a sabbatical leave at the Computer Supported Collaboration and Learning Laboratory of the College of Information Science and Technology of Penn State University, leaded by Prof. Carroll and Prof. Rosson. Moreover, he is co-organizing the "HCI for emergencies" workshop for CHI 2008 conference and a special session with the same name in the ISCRAM 2008 conference. He is also General Co-Chair of IEEE ICALT 2008.
