Teaching Breadth-First: Finding a Common
Ground when Teaching Diverse Students
Download PDF Slides
Abstract
Breadth-First approaches to teaching provide
first a holistic view of the topics to be covered before discussing them in more
detail later. This approach lends itself well to finding a common ground when
teaching students from different disciplines. Two themes of computer graphics,
namely computer-generated color and computer-generated visualization, are introduced
in the teaching/learning tool SIMBA using a breadth-first approach. Besides discussing
the teaching/learning tool SIMBA and the teaching situation for an interdisciplinary
course "Creativity and Technology", I can also report on evaluations
of the "Breath-first" aspects of the course.
