Preparation for Lecture on "Collaborative Learning"
Due: Monday, April 5, in class (max: 2 pages)
A. Visit the Website of the Course "CSCL: Theories, Methods, & Applications" at "http://l3d.cs.colorado.edu/courses/CSCI7782-3-S98/" and study/browse it
(CSCL supposedly stands for: "computer-supported collaborative learning"
i.e., there was a whole course dedicated to the theme for which we will spend only one lecture)
B. In the paper "Evolution of Complex Systems by Supporting Collaborating Communities Of Practice" the following topic is discussed: "courses as seeds" (see section 5)
1) please evaluate the arguments of this section (agree/disagree, feasible,
desirable, ...)
2) apply the argumentation to the website
a) of the CSCL course
b) of our course "Design, Learning and Collaboration"
to which extent do these courses and their associated documentation live up to the
expectations which are articulated for the model "courses as seeds"
3) suggest improvements for making the idea and the aspirations of "courses as seeds" more a reality!
