Improving the Usage of Organizational Memories by Supporting Prospect Awareness
Marcel Hoffmann, University of Dortmund
Abstract.
Employing collaborative systems to support voluntary cooperation the opacity of prospects is likely to have a negative impact on IT-acceptance. Conventional awareness mechanisms presuppose a certain level of activity to become effective and therefore fail to set initial incentives for participation and to convey awareness of possible innovative usage patterns. My research takes a rational perspective in assuming a significant link between user's expectations and behavior as suggested by cognitive theory of motivation.
The talk presents a case studies where requirements for the visualization of prospective benefits in computer supported collaboration were analyzed and describes different opportunities to enhance prospect awareness by organizational, educational and technological measures.
