"It doesn't take a rocket scientist! A micro-analysis of kids collaboratively learning how to build knowledge with a digital cognitive artifact"
Gerry Stahl, CU Computer Science/L3D
Abstract.
I will present my latest analysis of an experiment using SimRocket in a middle school project. The analysis uses techniques of discourse analysis, conversation analysis, video analysis and microethnography to make the actual process of collaboration and knowledge-building visible to the audience.
I think the approach I will illustrate is a very promising one for the evaluation of software artifacts especially for tools developed for CSCL and CSCW applications.
In this presentation, I will try to tie the specific empirical analysis to theories of pedagogy, cognition and collaboration, as well as to perspectives and the WebGuide software.
