An Overview of selected Interactive Projects in the School of Journalism's
New Media Center
Bruce Henderson, CU School of Journalism
Abstract.
The SJMC's New Media Center has been developing and using interactive Web tools in education for five years. This presentation will describe and/or demonstrate some of these projects. The first project involved an interactive CD-ROM textbook. Other projects include a Web-based StoryBoard program that allows students to work together to plan and update development of multimedia stories; an automated Web publishing program that allows students to use the Web to work individually or in groups to produce a Web multimedia story without needing to know HTML; a Web-based newsroom that features several interactive tools, including a forms-based grammar checker and an editing program that highlights comments with a sticky-note yellow background; and the Virtual Chautauqua project, which allows K-12 educators to create lesson plans online, drawing from about 100 streaming video clips of Colorado performing artists.
